This online course will benefit any pharmacists looking to obtain additional prescribing authority from the Alberta College of Pharmacy.

Join Diane Crandall in this four-module course as she provides an overview of the requirements that the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) wants you to include as part of your comprehensive package for submission to ACP for Additional Prescribing Authority (APA). Diane provides a general overview of APA, case requirements, case assessment and reviews the application form.

At the end of this program you should be able to:

  • Understand the requirements to successfully apply and obtain Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP);
  • Understand the charting requirements for your three Patient Cases and begin to chart patient interactions appropriate for inclusion in the application for APA and consistent with the ACP Standards of Practice;
  • Give examples of patient interactions that could be used as a Patient Case;
  • Evaluate a patient case from the perspective of an assessor, using the Case Assessment Tool in order to understand how to organize and map your three Patient Cases so ACP assessors can easily confirm that each activity and indicator has been met; and
  • Understand how to successfully complete each component of the APA Application Form.
