2013/2014 Board of Directors
RxA takes this opportunity to recognize your 2013/2014 RxA Board of Directors. This group consists of hard-working, knowledgeable and experienced volunteers who will provide RxA with its mandate for the fiscal year.
Led by President Ali Damani, the Board of Directors is comprised of seven representatives, including six Alberta
pharmacists and one student representative. Ex officio member includes the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores (CACDS).

Ali Damani, President-Elect
Ali graduated in 2002 from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Pharmacy. His past roles as a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager have helped him gain insight for his current position as Regional Pharmacy Director, with Rexall. Ali is actively involved with the University of Alberta, serving on the Deans Advisory Council.
Todd Prochnau, President-Elect
Todd graduated from the University of Alberta in 2010 and was the recipient of CPhA’s Dean George A. Burbidge Award. Shortly after, he became the pharmacist & associate owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Sylvan Lake. Achieving both his authorization to administer drugs by injection and additional prescribing authorization, Todd is continually expanding his scope of practice to best serve his patients. He also has extended his knowledge in tobacco reduction and runs a pharmacist-led smoking cessation clinic out of his pharmacy. In his spare time, Todd serves as a Board of Director for the Sylvan Lake & Area Community Partners Association.
Byron Bergh, Past President
EmailByron, a pharmacist for over 30 years, has been involved in many facets of the profession including owning and working in independent community settings, as well as serving as a member on the Alberta Economics Committee and chair of a Pharmacy Cooperative Caremart. Presently, Byron is the Pharmacy Innovation Pharmacist with Pharmasave, Western. Byron is RxA’s 13th President and also serves on the Bylaws Committee for the past three years.
Kit Poon - Secretary-Treasurer
Since graduating from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Pharmacy in 2004, Kit has been a vocal pharmacist advocating for change. Kit feels it is crucial for his practice in Stony Plain to ensure his practice skills are a top priority. He has obtained both his authorization to administer drugs by injection and additional prescribing authorization. Kit sits on the board for the Pain Society of Alberta, PharmaChoice West and serves as a lab facilitator at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Pharmacy. He is also actively involved with the Pharmacy Alumni Association.
Neil Cameron, Board Member
Having worked in a variety of community practice settings since 1991, Neil pursued owning his own pharmacy. In 1997, he purchased Athabasca Value Drug Mart and continues to practice pharmacy daily as the Pharmacy Manager. Neil has held many volunteer positions in his community with organizations such as Rotary Club and Santa’s Anonymous.
Amyn Kanjee, Board Member
Amyn, a pharmacist owner of a Shoppers Drug Mart in Calgary, is an active member in the pharmacy community and has served on a number of boards within the profession, including CPhA and ACP. He is actively involved in the daily operations of his pharmacy, teaches pharmacy technician courses at Bow Valley College and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Amyn first received a degree in microbiology (University of Calgary) and then earned a degree in pharmacy, with honours (University of Alberta).
Jimy Mathews, Board Member
Jimy has been a pharmacist since 1996 (University of Alberta). After working for several years with Canada Safeway as a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager, Jimy joined Shoppers Drug Mart in 2003 starting as a staff pharmacist and eventually becoming the Associate Owner at the Ellerslie Corner location in Edmonton. Over the years, he has most enjoyed seeing the expanded scope of practice take hold in our profession.
Matt Rushfeldt, Board Member
Matt has been a pharmacist since 2003 and currently works for Switzer’s Drugs, an independent pharmacy in Edson, which has been family owned for over 100 years. What he enjoys most about being a pharmacist is that he finds that he is constantly learning and growing professionally.
Eliezer Chin, Student Board Member
Eliezer was born and raised in Edmonton and is a currently a third year pharmacy student at the University of Alberta. He has previously worked in a community pharmacy in West Edmonton and also at the Misericordia Hospital. As a student, Eliezer appreciates the opportunity to participate with a team dedicated to advancing the profession of pharmacy in Alberta.
