Call for Director Nominations
RxA is pleased to invite members to respond to this year’s call for nominations for the 2013/2014 membership year. RxA is looking for members to fill two available positions on its Board of Directors.
Directors elected will serve a three-year term of office, and if elected, must commit to serve and to maintain membership in the Association. Directors will be elected “at large” from among licensed pharmacists in Alberta who are members in good standing with the Association. Appointments will be made in mid August.

Nominations of qualified candidates must be signed by a minimum of two licensed Alberta pharmacists that are RxA members, and must include the candidate’s consent in writing. The nomination form must be filed to the RxA office no later than Friday, June 14, 2013 by fax and by mail.
Step 3: Download and complete the Candidate Profile Form.
Candidate profiles must be received by the RxA office electronically no later than Friday, June 14, 2013.

RxA takes this opportunity to recognize your 2012/2013 RxA Board of Directors. This group consists of hard-working, knowledgeable and experienced volunteers who will provide RxA with its mandate for the fiscal year.
Led by President Byron Bergh, the Board of Directors is comprised of seven representatives, including six Alberta pharmacists and one student representative. Ex officio member includes the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores (CACDS).

Byron Bergh, President
EmailByron, a pharmacist for over 30 years, has been involved in many facets of the profession including owning and working in independent community settings, as well as serving as a member on the Alberta Economics Committee and chair of a Pharmacy Cooperative Caremart. Presently, Byron is the Pharmacy Innovation Pharmacist with Pharmasave, Western. Byron is RxA’s 13th President and also serves on the Bylaws Committee for the past three years.
Neil Cameron, Past President

Having worked in a variety of community practice settings since 1991, Neil pursued owning his own pharmacy. In 1997, he purchased Athabasca Value Drug Mart and continues to practice pharmacy daily as the Pharmacy Manager. Neil has held many volunteer positions in his community with organizations such as Rotary Club and Santa’s Anonymous.
Ali Damani, President-Elect
Ali graduated in 2002 from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Pharmacy. His past roles as a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager have helped him gain insight for his current position as Regional Pharmacy Director, with Rexall Katz Group. Ali is actively involved with the University of Alberta, serving on both the Deans Advisory Council and the Pharmacy Experiential Advisory Committee.

Matt has been a pharmacist since 2003 and currently works for Switzer’s Drugs, an independent pharmacy in Edson, which has been family owned for over 100 years. What he enjoys most about being a pharmacist is that he finds that he is constantly learning and growing professionally.
Max Beairsto, Board MemberEmail
After graduating in 1991 from the University of Alberta, Max returned to his rural roots to practice community and hospital pharmacy in small communities including St. Paul, Medicine Hat, Crossfield and Blackfalds. Currently, Max owns Bouchard Richards Strategies Group which focuses on pharmacy sales and has recently returned to his alma matter to complete his MBA.
Bor
Amyn, a pharmacist owner of a Shoppers Drug Mart in Calgary, is an active member in the pharmacy community and has served on a number of boards within the profession, including CPhA and ACP. He is actively involved in the daily operations of his pharmacy and also teaches pharmacy technician courses at Bow Valley College. Amyn first received a degree in microbiology (University of Calgary) and then earned a degree in pharmacy, with honours (University of Alberta).
Todd Prochnau

Todd graduated from the University of Alberta in 2010 and was the recipient of CPhA’s Dean George A. Burbidge Award. Shortly after, he became the pharmacist & associate owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Sylvan Lake. Achieving both his authorization to administer drugs by injection and additional prescribing authorization, Todd is continually expanding his scope of practice to best serve his patients. He also has extended his knowledge in tobacco reduction and runs a pharmacist-led smoking cessation clinic out of his pharmacy.
Patrick Rurka, Board Member
EmailPatrick graduated with a pharmacy degree from the University of Alberta in 1998. He was employed as a staff pharmacist at the University of Alberta Hospital specializing in cardiology and internal medicine until 2003. After a short period as a hospital pharmacy manager, Patrick left the city with his family to take over Rimbey Value Drug Mart. Patrick sits on RxA’s PD Planning Committee.
Douglas Owoo, Student Board Member

Douglas was raised in Calgary and is currently in his second year of pharmacy at the University of Alberta. This past summer he had the opportunity to work at Mosaic Primary Care Network in Calgary, and through his education, gained some community pharmacy experience. As a student, Douglas appreciates being able to participate on a team that is advancing the profession of pharmacy in Alberta.
