PIN Grant
The Pharmaceutical Information Network (PIN) is one of the primary components of the Alberta Netcare application suite, providing authorized healthcare professionals with shared access to patient medication records. PIN has evolved over several years to operate as a stand-alone browser-accessible application solution for health care providers.
To help community pharmacies with the implementation costs associated with PIN, Alberta Health and Wellness has committed funding to pharmacies once specific participation criteria have been met. As a key pharmacy stakeholder, RxA participates in the administration of PIN grant funding.
PIN Participation and Eligibility
Pharmacies may qualify for funding through two separate mechanisms:
‘
Batching’
Pharmacies participating in PIN using batch provide the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with a record of all dispensing that transpires within the pharmacy. Once pharmacies are successfully batching they will be provided with a grant form from their Netcare Transition Coordinator. This completed form is sent to Alberta Health and Wellness for verification and once approved it is then forwarded to RxA. Funding is sent to the store or corporate head office when all the criteria have been met.
‘
System to System’
(S2S)Pharmacies participating in PIN using S2S will use prescription management software that will interact with PIN through a predetermined set of messages. Availability of S2S version software is expected by late 2008 and additional funding will become available to pharmacies at this time.
